Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out and understand the role of Islamic Religious Education Teachers in increasing student interest in learning in Islamic Religious Education subjects. In this study using qualitative research methods, which are located at SMP Islam Chairo Palembang . The researcher conducted both structured and unstructured interviews with the resource persons (SMPIT Islamic Religious Education teachers) supported by documentation and direct observation data. As a finding in this study, namely that there is a special role in reviewing the role of teachers in increasing student interest in learning in PAI subjects at SMP Islam Chairo Palembang , it can be concluded that in addition to three roles, namely teachers as educators, coaches and supervisors, teachers are also role models and companions. what has been done, proves that the role of the teacher greatly influences the increasing interest of students in learning PAI, at SMP Islam Chairo Palembang . This school runs two (2) curricula, namely the general curriculum and the special curriculum (Islamic / religious activities of daily worship practices such as ablution, dhuha prayer, memorizing murojaah, dzuhur prayers in congregation, as well as the call to prayer but students still have an interest in learning PAI well, meaning that if the teacher's role is carried out well, it can affect students' interest in learning PAI even though the content of the material is added, so it is necessary to increase PAI learning time in schools, especially at SMP Islam Chairo Palembang .
