Abstract

The development of digital technology in the modern era has brought significant changes in the mindset and behavior of students, thus necessitating the strategic role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) as a pillar of religious moderation in building a balanced religious character. This study aims to analyze the role of PAI as a pillar of religious moderation and its implications in shaping the religious character of students in the digital era. The method used is qualitative research with a library research approach, through analysis of various scientific literature sources in the last five years that are relevant to the research topic. The results show that PAI has an important role in instilling the values ​​of religious moderation such as tolerance (tasamuh), balance (tawazun), and fairness (i'tidal) which are integrated into the digital-based learning process. This implementation is able to shape the character of students who are religious, tolerant, inclusive, and able to respond to the flow of digital information wisely. In conclusion, Islamic Religious Education as a pillar of religious moderation is effective in building the religious character of students who are moderate, adaptive, and have integrity amidst the challenges of the digital era
