Improving critical thinking skills is a key demand in 21st-century learning, including in Islamic Religious Education (PAI), which emphasizes not only cognitive aspects but also values and character development. This study aims to analyze the implementation and effectiveness of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model in enhancing students’ critical thinking skills in PAI learning. The research employs a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design (nonequivalent control group design), involving an experimental class and a control class. Data collection techniques include critical thinking tests (pre-test and post-test), observations, and questionnaires, which are analyzed using statistical tests (t-test) and N-Gain calculations. The results indicate that the implementation of the PjBL model significantly improves students’ critical thinking skills, as evidenced by higher post-test scores and N-Gain categories in the experimental class compared to the control class, as well as increased student engagement and participation in the learning process. In conclusion, Project-Based Learning is effective in improving students’ critical thinking skills in PAI and in creating more active, contextual, and meaningful learning experiences
