MANAJEMEN STRATEGIS DALAM PENGEMBANGAN LEMBAGA PENDIDIKAN ISLAM BERBASIS PESANTREN
Abstract
This study aims to examine the application of strategic management in the development of Islamic educational institutions based on pesantren (Islamic boarding schools). In the era of globalization and rapid technological advancement, pesantren are required not only to preserve Islamic traditions but also to adapt and innovate in order to remain relevant and competitive. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with case studies conducted at several pesantren that have successfully implemented effective managerial strategies. Based on the results and discussion, it can be concluded that the application of strategic management in the development of pesantren-based Islamic educational institutions is an integral process that reflects a synergy between spiritual values, local wisdom, and adaptation to contemporary dynamics. Strategic planning is carried out in a participatory manner, with the kyai (Islamic cleric) serving as the central visionary figure in formulating the long-term direction and policies of the pesantren, while analysis of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats is conducted, albeit in a simplified form. Strategy implementation includes the development of an integrated curriculum, improvement of teacher quality, strengthening of economic self-sufficiency, and expansion of external cooperation networks—all executed with a collective spirit, sincerity, and a focus on public welfare. Strategy evaluation is conducted both through formal forums and moral-spiritual approaches, indicating that effectiveness in pesantren is measured not only by quantitative indicators but also by values of piety and blessing
