Abstract

Method is one of the most important elements in the learning process of Islamic education, as it serves as one of the determining factors for the success of educational and learning activities. Therefore, it is highly recommended that the learning methods used are relevant and suited to the needs and conditions of the students. The main goal of Islamic education is to affirm that students must possess the ability to understand, believe in, and practice Islamic teachings as a tangible result of the learning process. To achieve this goal, learning methods in Islamic education must be based on primary references—namely, the Qur’an and the Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)—whose validity has stood the test of time. Learning methods in Islamic education that can be applied based on the perspective of the Qur’an and Hadith include: the method of wisdom (bil hikmah), the method of role modeling, the narrative method (qashash), the method of admonition or advice (ibrah or mau’izah), the method of habituation, analogies (tamtsil), reward and punishment (targhib wa tarhib), lectures, discussions or dialogues, debates (jidal), question-and-answer, demonstrations, as well as practice or repetition. Altogether, these demonstrate that the Qur’an and Hadith are the main sources of solutions for human life, which must be studied and deeply understood in order to attain a true understanding in fulfilling the human nature as servants of Allah SWT.
