Abstract

This research is a literature review aimed at identifying and analyzing the fundamental concepts, leadership styles, and practical implications of leadership in Islamic education. Through a literature study approach, various classical and contemporary sources are systematically examined to formulate a comprehensive understanding of Islamic leadership in the context of educational institutions. The review results indicate that Islamic educational leadership is based on the values of tawhid (monotheism), akhlaq (ethics), and collective responsibility, with the goal of nurturing the holistic development of human beings. Leadership styles frequently highlighted in the literature include prophetic, transformational, and participative leadership, all of which emphasize role modeling (uswah), service (khidmah), and consultation (shura). The application of these leadership styles has practical implications such as increased teacher motivation, a healthy organizational culture, and the sustainable achievement of the vision and mission of Islamic educational institutions. This study recommends strengthening Islamic leadership capacity that encompasses not only managerial aspects but also spiritual and ethical foundations as the core of quality Islamic education. Leadership based on Islamic values is key to the effective management and development of sustainable Islamic educational institutions. Therefore, strengthening Islamic leadership capacity should be a priority agenda in Islamic education policy and practice in Indonesia and the broader Islamic world
