Abstract

This study is a literature review aimed at examining the concept and application of Total Quality Management (TQM) in the management of Islamic education based in pesantren (Islamic boarding schools). The research method used is qualitative with a descriptive-analytical approach, utilizing various literatures such as books, scientific journals, and other relevant documents. The study results show that the fundamental principles of TQM—such as customer satisfaction orientation, continuous improvement, and the involvement of all elements of the organization—have high relevance to the management values in pesantren. TQM can be a strategic approach to improving the quality of Islamic education, both in curriculum, human resource management, and services for santri (students). This study also found that some pesantren have indirectly adopted the principles of TQM through collective work culture and visionary leadership. Thus, integrating TQM into the management of pesantren presents an important opportunity to address the challenges of Islamic education quality in the modern era.
