Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (IRE) instruction in Elementary Schools (ES) requires innovative approaches to facilitate deep and creative concept understanding among students. This study aims to explore the use of Mind Mapping techniques in the context of IRE instruction in ES with a focus on active and creative concept comprehension. The research design adopts a qualitative approach with an experimental research design. Participants consist of ES students divided into experimental and control groups. Students in the experimental group receive instruction using Mind Mapping techniques, while students in the control group receive instruction using conventional methods. Data were collected through observations, student work outcomes, and interviews with teachers and students. The findings indicate that students engaged in learning using Mind Mapping techniques tend to have deeper and more creative concept understanding compared to students learning with conventional methods. IRE teachers provided positive feedback on the use of Mind Mapping techniques in IRE instruction, stating that it facilitates interactive and engaging learning for students. Students also provided positive feedback, expressing that Mind Mapping enhances their motivation and confidence in understanding Islamic concepts. However, the study identifies limitations in generalizing the research findings to the contexts and samples used.
