PERAN KIYAI DALAM MENGHADAPI TANTANGAN MODERNISASI DAN GLOBALISASI DALAM PENGELOLAAN PESANTREN

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the role of kiyai in facing the challenges of modernization and globalization in Islamic boarding school management. Through a qualitative approach involving in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis, this research explores the adaptation and innovation strategies used by kiyai to maintain the relevance and sustainability of Islamic boarding schools as Islamic educational institutions. The research results show that kiyai have a central role in maintaining the identity and traditional values of Islamic boarding schools while also opening themselves to changing times. However, kiyai are faced with complex challenges in facing modernization and globalization, including changes in learning approaches, technology, and new cultural influences. Adaptation strategies used by kiyai include combining traditional learning methods with modern elements, strengthening character education, and utilizing information technology to support learning. Better support and guidance from various parties is also needed to strengthen the role of kiyai and ensure the sustainability of Islamic boarding schools in this modern era.
