Abstract

The principal has an important role in improving the quality of education, so he must have the ability to be a leader. To realize educational goals, it takes a school principal who has competence and responsibility accompanied by an increase in the performance of the school community, especially the performance of the teacher as the person in charge in the learning process of students. In the process of the leadership activities of the head of MA Ma'arif NU 5 Sekampung, his ability to influence, guide/direct, mobilize, and motivate teacher performance has been implemented. However, from the activities that have been carried out, it is still found that teachers do not carry out their duties and obligations, so that it can interfere with the process of learning activities. Therefore the aim of this study is to get a complete, accurate and up-to-date picture of the leadership of the Madrasah head in improving the performance of teachers at MA Ma'arif NU 5 Sekampung. This type of research is qualitative research. Data collection techniques used are observation, interviews and documentation. The data analysis technique used is a qualitative analysis technique, with the steps: categorizing data, reducing data, presenting data and classifying data according to the research focus then drawing conclusions from the data obtained in this study. the results of data analysis show that the Madrasah Principal has carried out the four principal leadership characteristics, but has not been implemented optimally, namely in the activities of guiding/directing teachers, mobilizing, and motivating teachers. This can be seen in the fact that the Madrasah head does not routinely provide guidance, direction or guidance to teachers to make learning tools such as lesson plans and RKM, besides that the Madrasah head also does not provide motivation or encouragement for the performance of teachers who still have deficiencies either by giving warnings, sanctions or other. So that the teacher is not routine in preparing daily activity plans or weekly activity plans before carrying out learning in class. This causes less optimal teacher performance at MA Ma'arif NU 5 Sekampung.
