Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of portfolio-based learning on students’ motivation and learning outcomes in the Al-Qur’an Hadith subject for Grade II students of MTs Darul Istiqamah Makassar in the 2024/2025 academic year. Portfolio-based learning was chosen because it allows students to reflect on their learning process, evaluate their progress, and develop greater responsibility for their academic tasks. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, documentation, and portfolio assessment. The results indicate that portfolio-based learning enhances students’ learning motivation through reflection activities, learning journals, project presentations, and group discussions. It also improves learning outcomes, particularly in understanding Qur’anic verses, memorization, and interpreting Hadith. The main challenges identified include varied levels of student discipline and differences in initial academic ability. Overall, portfolio-based learning is an effective model for increasing motivation and learning achievement in the Al-Qur’an Hadith subject.
