Role of Islamic Education Teachers, Students’ Learning InterestAbstract
In this study, the researcher found something unique in one of the schools in Bogor, namely SMP DAREL SALAM Bogor, where teachers perform their roles differently compared to other schools and students show good learning interest. To facilitate this research, the problem formulation is: “How is the Role of Islamic Education Teachers in Increasing Students’ Learning Interest in Islamic Education Subjects at SMP DAREL SALAM Bogor in the Academic Year 2025/2026?”
The purpose of this study is to identify and understand the role of Islamic Education teachers in enhancing students’ learning interest in Islamic Education subjects.
This study uses a qualitative research method, conducted at SMP DAREL SALAM Bogor in the Academic Year 2025/2026. The researcher conducted both structured and unstructured interviews with Islamic Education teachers, supported by documentation data and direct observation.
The findings of this study regarding the role of teachers in increasing students’ learning interest in Islamic Education subjects indicate that three roles—teacher as educator, mentor, and supervisor—significantly influence students’ interest in learning Islamic Education at SMP DAREL SALAM Bogor in the Academic Year 2025/2026. This school implements two curricula: the general curriculum and a special Islamic curriculum, which requires students to memorize a minimum of three juz of the Qur’an upon graduation. The school also carries out daily religious practices such as ablution, sholat dhuha, Qur'an revision (muroja’ah), congregational sholat dzuhur, as well as the call to prayer. Despite the additional religious activities and materials, students still demonstrate strong interest in learning Islamic Education. This means that the effective roles carried out by teachers contribute greatly to increasing students’ interest in learning Islamic Education, even when the subject load is expanded. Therefore, additional instructional time for Islamic Education is needed at the junior high school level.
