Abstract

Applying a method without using any media will certainly make children bored and unenthusiastic about learning, especially young children who learn through play. Storytelling is a very important learning activity for early childhood to increase knowledge and expand vocabulary to develop children's language skills. However, if the story is not interesting and exciting, it will make children uncomfortable and the message that is intended to be conveyed to children will not be fully received by them. Therefore, the use of media is very important and recommended in learning so that storytelling becomes something that children look forward to. In this study, the media used is visual media, namely hand puppets that can only be seen by students.

Based on the background of the problem, educators have an important role in helping children's language development through the application of storytelling methods in kindergarten. This is because storytelling will greatly increase children's knowledge and imagination to think and ask questions using proper language.

In this research using this method, the author used a descriptive qualitative method. Data collection tools were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation.

Based on the results of field studies conducted through several cycles, starting from cycle I and cycle II, and based on all discussions and analyses carried out, it can be concluded that the application of storytelling methods through story media using puppet media can improve children's language skills and make the learning process more enjoyable, as well as promote good interaction between students and teachers. Children at Riyadhatul Jannah Kindergarten in Subang, West Java, had an enjoyable experience, gained additional information, and improved their vocabulary through the storytelling method using media.
