Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the principal’s supervision in improving teacher performance at SDIT Ikhtiar Makassar in the 2025–2026 academic year. Principal supervision plays an essential role in teachers’ professional development and the improvement of learning quality. However, its implementation in schools often faces several challenges, such as limited supervision time, varying teacher readiness, and inadequate supporting facilities. Therefore, this study was conducted to obtain an in-depth understanding of how principal supervision contributes to improving teacher performance.

This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with the principal and teachers, classroom observations during supervision and teaching activities, and documentation analysis of lesson plans, supervision schedules, and supervision reports. The data were analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing.

The findings reveal that principal supervision at SDIT Ikhtiar Makassar is carried out through three main stages: planning, implementation, and follow-up. The supervision practices have positively contributed to improving teacher performance, particularly in preparing lesson plans, mastering learning strategies, managing classrooms, utilizing instructional media, and conducting learning evaluations. Supporting factors include the principal’s commitment, collaborative work culture, and teachers’ positive responsiveness toward guidance. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors consist of limited supervision time, teachers’ administrative workload, and insufficient learning facilities.

Overall, the study concludes that the principal’s supervision plays a significant role in enhancing teacher professionalism and performance at SDIT Ikhtiar Makassar.
