This study aims to describe the implementation of Islamic Education (PAI) learning based on contemporary social issues in improving students' critical thinking skills at SDIT Al Ihya Kalirejo. The background arises from the need for more contextual Islamic learning that connects Islamic teachings with real social phenomena experienced by students. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving Islamic Education teachers and students as subjects. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s model, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that teachers implement problem-based learning through case studies, group discussions, higher-order thinking questions (HOTS), role play, and the use of digital media. Social issues such as bullying, digital ethics, consumeristic behavior, and environmental awareness are used as triggers for discussion to foster students’ critical thinking abilities. This learning approach helps students identify problems, analyze causes, evaluate actions, and formulate solutions based on Islamic values. Challenges faced include variations in students’ thinking abilities and limited learning time, yet these issues can be addressed through targeted guidance and effective classroom management. The study concludes that PAI learning based on contemporary social issues effectively enhances students’ critical thinking and can serve as an alternative learning model in Islamic education for elementary schools.
