PERAN KEPALA SEKOLAH DALAM MENGEMBANGKAN KOMPETENSI TEKNOLOGIS GURU SENIOR YANG MENGALAMI DIGITAL GAP DI SMP IT WAHDAH ISLAMIYAH MAKASSAR

Abstract

This study aims to describe the role of the school principal in developing technological competencies among senior teachers experiencing a digital gap at SMP IT Wahdah Islamiyah Makassar. The study employed a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations of training and supervision activities, and documentation analysis, including digital lesson plans, training reports, and supervision notes. Data analysis was conducted using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the principal implemented humanistic, adaptive, and collaborative leadership practices in supporting senior teachers with limited digital skills. The principal began the development process by mapping individual needs, followed by designing step-by-step technology training tailored to the learning characteristics of senior teachers. A mentoring team of younger teachers was also formed to provide direct technical support. Additionally, the principal offered motivation, emotional support, and recognition to enhance the confidence of senior teachers. Challenges such as limited facilities, variations in baseline digital skills, and technology anxiety were addressed through flexible policies and adequate infrastructure provision. Overall, the study shows that the principal’s leadership plays a crucial role in closing the digital gap and improving the technological competencies of senior teachers, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of technology-based learning in the school.
