This study aims to describe the implementation of self-reflection-based academic supervision in improving the pedagogical competence of novice teachers at PKBM Kuttab Nurul Wahyain, Makassar City, in the 2025/2026 academic year. This research employed a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom and supervision observations, and documentation analysis, including reflection journals, lesson plans, and teaching video recordings. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that self-reflection-based academic supervision was implemented through several key stages: reflection training, structured reflection journal writing, analysis of recorded teaching sessions, and collaborative discussion between novice teachers, the head of PKBM, and senior teachers. Novice teachers demonstrated significant improvements in lesson planning, teaching method selection, classroom management, and learning assessment practices. Self-reflection enabled teachers to recognize their strengths and weaknesses objectively and design continuous improvement strategies. Although challenges such as consistency in reflection and limited facilities were encountered, support from the head of PKBM through mentoring and provision of supervisory tools helped overcome these obstacles. Overall, self-reflection-based academic supervision proved effective in enhancing the pedagogical competence of novice teachers and can serve as a model for teacher development in other nonformal education institutions.
