This study aims to describe the implementation of a portfolio-based performance management system in assessing teacher competency at Pondok Pesantren Baitul Qur'an, Rimbo Bujang, Jambi, in 2025. This research employed a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the implementation of the portfolio system began with the development of portfolio guidelines, teacher training, and technical assistance to ensure that teachers understood the documentation process. The teacher portfolio includes lesson plans, teaching documentation, student assessments, self-reflections, and evidence of professional development. This system proved effective in assessing teachers' pedagogical, professional, social, and personal competencies in a more authentic and comprehensive manner than conventional evaluation methods. In addition to improving teaching quality, the portfolio also encouraged teachers to participate more actively in professional development and independently improve their performance. Challenges identified include limited documentation skills and varying teacher motivation, but these were addressed through supervision, mentoring, and simplifying the portfolio format. Overall, the portfolio-based performance management system is effective and can serve as a model for evaluating teacher performance to improve educational quality in Islamic boarding schools.
