This study aims to describe the adaptive leadership of the principal in improving teachers’ performance during curriculum change at SMA Negeri 1 Lempuing in the 2025/2026 academic year. The research employed a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and documentation, and were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the principal practices adaptive leadership through several key strategies, including strengthening two-way communication, implementing academic supervision based on coaching and mentoring, providing training on the new curriculum, and establishing professional learning communities among teachers. The principal also adjusts internal school policies to reduce teachers’ administrative burden, provides technology-based learning facilities, and offers moral support to minimize resistance to change. These strategies positively impact teachers’ performance in designing lesson plans aligned with the new curriculum, managing classrooms effectively, utilizing digital media, and improving the overall quality of the teaching and learning process. The study concludes that the principal’s adaptive leadership plays a significant role in maintaining school stability during curriculum transition while simultaneously encouraging the enhancement of teacher professionalism. This adaptive leadership model can serve as a reference for other schools facing educational policy changes.
