PERAN GURU PAI DALAM PEMBINAAN KARAKTER DIGITAL ISLAMI PADA SISWA DI ERA MEDIA SOSIAL DI SMK NEGERI 2 PEKANBARU KECAMATAN SAIL KELURAHAN CINTA RAJA PROVINSI RIAU TAHUN PELAJARAN 2025/2026

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in fostering Islamic digital character among students in the era of social media at SMK Negeri 2 Pekanbaru, Sail Subdistrict, Cinta Raja Village, Academic Year 2025/2026. The background of the study highlights the high intensity of social media use among students, which presents challenges to digital ethics and Islamic moral values. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques including interviews, observations, and documentation. The research subjects consisted of PAI teachers, students, and guidance and counseling teachers. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The findings indicate that PAI teachers play a significant role in fostering Islamic digital character through four main strategies: Islamic digital literacy, habituation of digital ethics, digital guidance and monitoring, and integration of PAI materials with digital-based practices. PAI teachers provide education on online etiquette, the principle of tabayyun, ethical commenting, and Islamic limitations in digital interactions. Guidance is given through persuasive approaches to students involved in digital misconduct. Teachers also engage students in digital da’wah activities and Islamic content creation. This character-building effort significantly impacts students' digital behavior, reflected in increased awareness, reduced cases of digital violations, and improved wisdom in using social media. The study concludes that PAI teachers play a strategic role in shaping students' Islamic digital character to face the challenges of the social media era.
