STRATEGI KEPALA MADRASAH DALAM MENINGKATKAN DISIPLIN KERJA GURU MELALUI PENDEKATAN REWARD DAN PUNISHMENT MA HIDAYATUSSIBYAN NW SENGKERANG-PRAYA TIMUR LOMBOK TENGAH

Abstract

 This study aims to analyze the principal’s strategy in improving teacher work discipline through the implementation of a reward and punishment system at MA Hidayatussibyan NW Sengkerang, East Praya, Central Lombok. Teacher discipline is a crucial component in ensuring high-quality learning, therefore the principal is required to develop effective managerial strategies to foster a professional, responsible, and orderly work culture. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with data collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings reveal that the reward and punishment approach becomes effective when implemented in a structured, fair, and communicative manner. Rewards such as recognition, appreciation, and opportunities for training significantly enhance teacher motivation, while punishments such as verbal warnings, official reprimands, and targeted coaching help raise awareness of the importance of discipline. The principal also applies intensive supervision, exemplary leadership, and positive interpersonal communication to create a supportive working environment. Supporting factors include policy transparency, teacher participation, and a strong work culture. However, challenges arise from diverse teacher characteristics, limited facilities, and initial resistance to policies. Overall, the study concludes that the combination of reward and punishment is an effective strategy for improving teacher discipline when supported by visionary leadership and a collaborative work atmosphere.
