Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in increasing students’ learning interest in PAI subjects at SDN 2 Gisting Bawah, Tanggamus Regency. Increasing learning interest is essential for achieving optimal learning outcomes; therefore, teachers are expected to apply appropriate strategies, methods, and learning approaches. This research employs a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving PAI teachers, students, and the school principal. The findings indicate that PAI teachers play a significant role in enhancing students’ learning interest through the use of varied teaching methods, the provision of motivation, and the creation of a conducive classroom environment. Moreover, teachers act as motivators, facilitators, and role models in building students’ character and spirituality. Challenges encountered include limited learning facilities, differences in student abilities, and family environmental factors. Nevertheless, the teacher’s adaptive strategies contribute positively to students’ increased interest, shown by improvements in activeness, discipline, and enthusiasm during PAI learning activities. Therefore, this study emphasizes that the role of PAI teachers is crucial in influencing learning interest and supporting the success of Islamic education at the elementary level.
