Abstract

This study aims to describe the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in developing students’ character at SD IT Wihdatul Ummah Poso during the 2024/2025 academic year. Character development is an essential component of the educational process, particularly at the primary school level, which serves as the foundation for moral formation. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that PAI teachers play a strategic role in shaping students’ character through exemplary behavior, habituation, reinforcement of Islamic values, discipline building, and continuous moral guidance. PAI teachers also collaborate with parents and the school community to create a supportive environment for students’ moral development. Supporting factors include the Islamic school culture, strong teacher-student relationships, and structured religious programs. Challenges arise from limited parental supervision at home, environmental influences, and students’ diverse characteristics. The study concludes that the role of PAI teachers is crucial in ensuring successful character development, highlighting the need for strengthening teacher professionalism and enhancing school-family collaboration.
