SUPERVISI AKADEMIK KEPALA SEKOLAH DALAM MENINGKATKAN MUTU PEMBELAJARAN DI MA DARUL MUSTHOFA NW SETILING DESA SETILING KECAMATAN BATUKLIANG UTARA KABUPATEN LOMBOK TENGAH TAHUN PELAJARAN 2025/2026
Abstract
This study aims to describe and interpret the academic supervision practices of madrasah principals in improving the quality of learning at MA Darul Musthofa NW Setiling, Setiling Village, Batukliang Utara District, Central Lombok Regency, in the 2025/2026 academic year. Using a qualitative approach with an embedded single-case study design (Yin, 2024), data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews, 22 participatory observations, and document analysis of 23 participants (1 madrasah principal, 14 teachers, and 8 students) selected by purposive and snowball sampling. The results of the thematic analysis show four main themes: (1) supervision as an additional task with low frequency, (2) the dominant directive-traditional approach, (3) structural barriers and cultural inertia of Nahdlatul Wathan Islamic boarding schools, and (4) limited impact on the learning innovation of the Merdeka Curriculum. These findings deepen understanding that the Western clinical-collaborative supervision model is difficult to directly implement in rural Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) without cultural modifications. The study concludes that a hybrid supervision model is needed that integrates Sufism and Islamic boarding school adab values with modern learning leadership principles. Practical and policy implications include recommendations for contextual supervision training for NW Islamic boarding school principals and revisions to the Ministry of Religious Affairs' supervision guidelines. Further research is recommended through a multi-case approach and pilot testing of the proposed hybrid model.
