Abstract

The principal's work ethic is a key factor in determining the quality of leadership and teacher performance in elementary schools. The urgency of this research is based on the importance of building a professional, disciplined, and spiritual work culture in the context of Islamic education management. This study aims to analyze how the principal's work ethic contributes to improving teacher performance at SD Negeri 2 Kedaung, Sragi District, South Lampung Regency in the 2025/2026 academic year. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation studies. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results show that principals with a strong work ethic—including discipline, responsibility, exemplary behavior, and commitment to quality—have a significant impact on improving teacher professionalism and work motivation. In addition, the principal's work ethic contributes to shaping a positive and collaborative school culture. These findings strengthen Weber's theory of work ethic and the concept of transformational leadership in Islamic education. This research has implications for the need to strengthen the development of school principals based on moral and spiritual values, and encourages further research using a triangulation or mixed methods approach to broaden understanding of the relationship between work ethic and teacher performance.
