MODEL KEPEMIMPINAN KEPALA SEKOLAH DALAM PENINGKATAN KOMPETENSI PEDAGOGIK GURU (STUDI KASUS DI SMP IT WAHDAH ISLAMIYAH GOWA)
Abstract
This study aims to describe the principal's leadership model in improving teachers' pedagogical competence at SMP IT Wahdah Islamiyah Gowa. The issues studied are how the vision, supervision practices, and professional development programs are practiced in the context of Islamic schools and the meanings constructed by the principal and teachers. Qualitative research with a case study approach was used to explore the processes and experiences of educational actors in depth. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and school documentation; informants were selected purposively (n = 10) consisting of the principal, seven teachers, and two coaching staff. Data analysis followed the interactive model of Miles & Huberman (reduction, presentation, verification) with source triangulation and member checking to ensure credibility. The results show four main themes: (1) visionary leadership that integrates Islamic tarbiyah values with learning objectives, (2) humanistic academic supervision based on mentoring and coaching, (3) strengthening competence through collaborative training such as lesson study and peer teaching, and (4) Islamic school culture as a foundation for pedagogical practice. The findings also identified obstacles such as limited teacher digital literacy and administrative burdens. In conclusion, a visionary-instructional and contextual leadership model based on Islamic values effectively strengthens pedagogical competence. Implications include policy recommendations for strengthening supervision, ongoing professional development programs, and comparative research in other Islamic school contexts.
