Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of the Active Learning method using the Mind Mapping type on students’ learning interest and achievement in the Islamic Religious Education subject for class XI.1 at SMAN 1 Sinaboi, Sinaboi District. The background of this research arises from the low level of student engagement in the learning process and the limited variety of teaching methods used by teachers, which often hinder students’ ability to fully understand the material. The Mind Mapping strategy was selected because it allows students to organize concepts visually, creatively, and systematically, which is expected to enhance their intrinsic motivation during learning activities. This research employs a qualitative case study approach, in which data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving the Islamic education teacher, students of class XI.1, and the learning artifacts produced during the Mind Mapping activities. Data analysis was performed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing based on an interactive model. Data validity was strengthened through source and technique triangulation. The research focuses on examining how Mind Mapping is implemented, how students respond to the method, and what changes occur in their learning interest and achievement throughout the learning process. The findings reveal that the Mind Mapping method has a positive impact on increasing students’ learning interest, as indicated by heightened attention, curiosity, and active participation during Islamic Education lessons. Moreover, students’ learning achievement improved, as shown in their conceptual understanding, formative assessment results, and ability to independently articulate the lesson content. The teacher noted that Mind Mapping helps simplify the delivery of complex material by enabling students to clearly visualize relationships among concepts. Thus, the Active Learning method of the Mind Mapping type is considered effective in creating a more meaningful learning experience and supporting the achievement of learning objectives in Islamic Religious Education for class XI.1 at SMAN 1 Sinaboi.
