This study aims to describe the leadership patterns of the principal in improving teacher performance at SMP Kartika Handayani Makassar. The background of this research arises from the school's need for adaptive and communicative leadership capable of providing strategic direction amid the rapidly changing educational environment. The principal, as an instructional leader, is expected not only to fulfill administrative tasks but also to serve as a driving force in enhancing teachers’ competence, motivation, and professionalism. Teacher performance is considered a fundamental aspect determining the quality of educational services; therefore, the principal’s leadership pattern becomes a key determinant in improving educational quality. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design, where data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation related to the principal’s leadership practices and teacher performance. The findings reveal that the principal applies a transformational leadership pattern characterized by the ability to provide inspiration, build shared vision, increase intrinsic motivation, and create a supportive work climate. Additionally, aspects of democratic leadership are evident through teacher involvement in discussions, deliberations, and decision-making processes. The principal also conducts regular academic supervision, provides constructive feedback, and formulates continuous professional development programs to enhance teacher performance. The study indicates that the leadership patterns implemented are effective in motivating teachers to work more optimally, improving discipline, enhancing lesson planning quality, and strengthening professional responsibility. Furthermore, harmonious interpersonal relationships between the principal and teachers positively influence work comfort, motivation, and teacher commitment. This research concludes that effective principal leadership patterns play a strategic role in improving teacher performance, and schools need to continuously develop adaptive leadership styles that align with institutional needs and current educational challenges.
