Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development of moderate Islam in Indonesia and the strategic role of education in strengthening the values of religious moderation based on the concept of Rahmatan Lil ‘Alamin. The method used is a literature study with a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing sources such as books, journal articles, and policy documents. The results show that moderate Islam is a theological and ontological concept aligned with the values of humanity, justice, tolerance, and togetherness. In Indonesia, the spread of Islam from the beginning has accommodated local culture through peaceful approaches, which became the hallmark of Islam Nusantara. Religious organizations such as Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah play a significant role in maintaining Islamic moderation through education, preaching, and strengthening national values. Moreover, religious moderation education serves as an important instrument in facing the challenges of extremism, intolerance, and social conflict. The concept of Rahmatan Lil ‘Alamin is used as a normative foundation in reinforcing religious moderation, as it reflects the values of compassion, justice, and universal peace. Thus, strengthening education based on the values of moderate Islam is expected to produce a generation that is inclusive, tolerant, and noble in character in the life of the nation and religion.
