Abstract
Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in Vocational High Schools (SMK) has an important role in forming students' religious identity and morality, but big challenges arise in implementing a multicultural approach in learning. This research aims to explore the implementation of a multicultural approach in PAI learning at SMK PGRI Semaka and its impact on students and the school environment. The research method used is a qualitative and quantitative approach with a case study design. Data was collected through classroom observations, interviews with teachers and students, as well as analysis of PAI curriculum documents and learning materials. The research results show that the PAI curriculum tends not to be integrated with multicultural values, while teachers face challenges in implementing a multicultural approach in learning. Students feel that PAI learning is not inclusive enough and they want more understanding of cultural and religious diversity. Observed negative impacts include increased inter-religious tensions in school environments and a decline in the overall quality of education. The recommendations put forward include training and professional development for PAI teachers, revision of the PAI curriculum to be more integrated with multicultural values, development of inclusive learning materials, and collaboration between schools and the community. It is hoped that the implementation of these recommendations can create a more inclusive, harmonious and quality PAI learning environment at SMK PGRI Semaka, as well as contribute to the holistic development of students in the context of increasingly complex cultural and religious diversity.
