PENGARUH PEMIKIRAN PARA INTELEKTUAL MUSLIM MODERN: FAZLUR RAHMAN

Abstract

Fazlur Rahman can be categorized as one of the most serious and productive neomodernist thinkers and also as a Muslim intellectual figure who has an interesting background. Fazlur Rahman has a background in conflicting scientific traditions: traditional Indian Pakistani madrasa and liberal Western scholarship, both influential in shaping his intellectualism. In Fazlur Rahman the knowledge of a pious 'pious' and a well-known Orientalist knowledge are gathered. Fazlur Rahman formulated an alternative methodology of Islamic thought, as a formulation of a way out of all the criticisms of the history of Islamic thought. The methodological crisis seems to be very well recognized by Fazlur Rahman as the cause of the decline of Islamic thought. It seems that the alternative methodology is seen by Fazlur Rahman as the focal point for resolving the crisis of Islamic intellectualism. The implication of this methodological alternative is a large project of the Islamic Ummah leading to the renewal of Islamic thought.
