Abstract

As a nation with a plural society, social harmony is a shared ideal, but the social dynamics that do not prioritize tolerance between communities can cause friction caused by these differences. Therefore the formulation and concept of multiculturalism are needed that can be used to prevent conflicts that can cause disintegration. This concept can be instilled through Islamic education which is synergized with educational institutions. The internalization process is carried out in association between citizens in educational institutions, especially between teachers and students, with an emphasis on understanding religious diversity, diversity in social status, building gender sensitivity, and understanding language and ethnic diversity
