PEMBENTUKAN KARAKTER DISIPLIN DAN TANGGUNG JAWAB MELALUI PEMBELAJARAN PAI BERBASIS KETELADANAN SEKOLAH DASAR 13 MESUJI TIMUR KECAMATAN MESUJI TIMUR KABUPATEN MESUJI TAHUN PELAJARAN 2025/2026

Abstract

This study aims to describe the development of discipline and responsibility character through Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning based on exemplary practice at SDN 13 Mesuji Timur, Mesuji Timur District, Mesuji Regency, in the 2025/2026 academic year. The study is based on the importance of instilling character values from an early age, particularly through PAI, which contains strong moral and ethical foundations. Exemplary-based learning is considered one of the most effective approaches for character building, as elementary school students tend to imitate the behaviors demonstrated by their teachers. This research employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The research subjects consisted of PAI teachers, the principal, homeroom teachers, and students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation.

The findings show that the exemplary behavior demonstrated by PAI teachers plays a crucial role in shaping students’ discipline and responsibility. Teachers model punctuality, orderly teaching practices, and commitment to their duties. These exemplary behaviors encourage students to develop similar habits, such as arriving to class on time, preparing learning materials, and completing assignments consistently. Structured habituation activities also strengthen students’ character, including reciting prayers before learning, maintaining classroom cleanliness, and performing religious practices properly.

In addition to teacher exemplary behavior, the school environment and parental involvement further support character formation. The principal reinforces school rules, religious habituation, and monitors student behavior, while parents help sustain character values at home. This study concludes that exemplary-based PAI learning effectively shapes discipline and responsibility among elementary school students. The findings are expected to serve as a reference for teachers in developing more structured exemplary-based learning strategies.
