Abstrak

. This study aims to analyze the representation of illocutionary speech acts in Ihza Mahendra’s book Merawat Luka Batin: Jalan Menjadi Versi Terbaik Diri (2023) using the speech act theories of Austin and Searle. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, the research focuses on textual data in the book that contains expressions related to self-healing, motivation, and emotional reflection. The data were collected through documentation techniques and analyzed using an interactive model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the author strategically uses five categories of illocutionary acts—assertives, directives, expressives, commissives, and declaratives—to construct a coherent and persuasive healing discourse. Assertive acts function to strengthen arguments and provide foundational understanding regarding emotional wounds, whereas expressive acts convey empathy and validate the readers’ emotional states. Directive acts guide readers through reflective actions and self-improvement steps, while commissive acts provide psychological support and encouragement. Declarative acts appear as invitations for readers to commit internally to personal transformation. These findings indicate that language in self-improvement texts carries strong pragmatic functions, serving not only as a medium of information delivery but also as a therapeutic tool that assists readers in processing emotional experiences and fostering motivation for personal growth.
