Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of catfish aquaculture production in improving the community's economy from an Islamic economic perspective, with a case study in Tarahan Village, Katibung District, South Lampung Regency. Catfish farming has become a promising business alternative to support the income of rural communities. In Islamic economics, productive ventures such as fish farming are not only assessed based on financial gain but also on values of blessing (barakah), equitable distribution, and business sustainability. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach using observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation methods involving local catfish farming practitioners. The results show that catfish aquaculture activities significantly contribute to increasing income and improving the standard of living of the community, as well as creating employment opportunities for nearby residents. Furthermore, Islamic economic principles such as partnership (syirkah), honesty in transactions, and the avoidance of riba (usury) are implemented in business practices. These findings indicate that catfish farming, when managed through an Islamic approach, can serve as a just and sustainable economic empowerment tool. Therefore, it is recommended that the village government and relevant stakeholders continue to promote the development of this sector while upholding sharia-based principles in its implementation.
