Abstract

This research aims to explore and analyze the role of the principal's management function in improving teacher performance at SMP Setia Negara Palembang. A qualitative approach was used to collect data through in-depth interviews, observation and document analysis. The respondents of this research were the principal, teachers and administrative staff at SMP Setia Negara. Data analysis was carried out using the content analysis method. The research results show that school principals play a significant role in improving teacher performance through management functions, including planning, organizing, directing and controlling. In planning, the principal plays a role in formulating a clear vision, mission and school goals, as well as designing professional development programs for teachers. Organizing involves the efficient allocation of resources and division of tasks. The school principal also provides appropriate direction through coaching and regular monitoring of teacher performance. In addition, control is carried out through performance evaluation and providing constructive feedback to teachers. It was found that principal support in professional development, motivation, and effective communication played a key role in increasing teacher motivation and performance. However, several challenges were also identified, including resource limitations, policy changes, and administrative barriers. In conclusion, this research highlights the importance of the principal's role in improving teacher performance at SMP Setia Negara Palembang through the implementation of effective management functions. Recommendations are suggested to strengthen principal support in teacher professional development, improve communication, and overcome administrative barriers to achieve better educational goals.
