Anxiety is one of the affective factors that significantly influences students’ success in learning a foreign language, particularly English. Many students experience anxiety when they are required to speak, listen, read, or write in English, which can negatively affect their learning outcomes. This study aims to investigate the level and types of students’ anxiety in learning English and to identify the factors that cause anxiety among eighth grade students of MTs Assa'Adah GIS, Lampung Tengah. This research employed a qualitative case study design. The data were collected through classroom observations, questionnaires, and interviews with students and the English teacher. The findings show that most students experience moderate to high levels of anxiety, especially in speaking activities. The dominant types of anxiety found were communication apprehension, fear of negative evaluation, and test anxiety. Factors causing anxiety include lack of vocabulary, fear of making mistakes, low self-confidence, teacher-centered learning methods, and limited opportunities to practice English. This study concludes that students’ anxiety in learning English is a serious issue that needs attention. Teachers are encouraged to create a supportive learning environment and apply communicative and student-centered teaching strategies to reduce students’ anxiety.
