Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of Active Learning strategies in enhancing the effectiveness of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) learning at Madrasah Aliyah Al-Furqon Tegal Cabe, Cilegon City, Banten. The background of this research lies in the challenges faced in IRE learning, which is still conventional and less capable of encouraging active student participation, thereby affecting students' understanding and motivation. This qualitative study employs a descriptive method, emphasizing data collection through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, providing a comprehensive picture of the application of Active Learning by IRE teachers and students' responses to these strategies. The findings indicate that Active Learning strategies at Madrasah Aliyah Al-Furqon are implemented through various techniques, such as group discussions, problem-based learning, and role play, which enhance interactions between teachers and students as well as among students themselves. The learning process becomes more dynamic, participatory, and engaging for students. Teachers also adjust methods according to the characteristics of the material and students’ needs, resulting in a significant improvement in learning effectiveness. Students become more active in expressing opinions, asking questions, and solving problems, which were rarely observed in conventional learning models. Furthermore, the study finds that Active Learning strategies not only enhance students' conceptual understanding of IRE material but also foster religious attitudes and critical thinking skills. The supporting factors for successful implementation include teacher competence, student readiness, and school facilities and infrastructure. However, there are challenges such as limited time and varied student abilities, requiring adaptive strategies from teachers. The study recommends continuous teacher training and the development of innovative learning media to optimize the implementation of Active Learning in Madrasah Aliyah.
