PENERAPAN MODEL PEMBELAJARAN BERBASIS PROYEK UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KETERAMPILAN MENULIS TEKS EKSPLANASI SISWA KELAS VII DI SMP NEGERI 3 PAYARAMAN

Abstrak

This study aims to improve the explanatory text writing skills of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 3 Payaraman through the implementation of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model. The background of this study is the low writing ability of students, indicated by their limited understanding of text structure, scientific language features, and the ability to present logical and coherent explanations. This research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and writing tests. The results show a significant improvement in students’ writing skills after the implementation of the PjBL model. In the first cycle, students began to demonstrate progress in understanding the structure of explanatory texts, although weaknesses remained in the use of causal conjunctions and scientific terminology. After improvements were made in the second cycle, the quality of students’ writing improved more significantly, marked by an average score exceeding the Minimum Mastery Criteria. In addition to increased writing skills, students’ attitudes toward learning also changed positively. They became more active, motivated, and capable of collaborating in completing project tasks. Overall, the Project-Based Learning model proved effective in enhancing students’ explanatory writing skills and supporting the development of critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration abilities. These findings may serve as recommendations for teachers in implementing innovative learning strategies.
