Abstract

The project method is one way of providing learning
experiences by confronting children with everyday problems
that must be solved in groups. Cognition is a thinking process,
which is an individual's ability to connect, assess and consider
an event or events. Geometry is building concepts starting with
identifying shapes and investigating buildings and separating
images such as quadrangles, circles, triangles and squares. The
purpose of this study was to find out whether the application of
the project method can develop cognitive in recognizing
geometry in Raudhatul Athfal Muslimat NU 07 Sumber
Bahagia.
This type of research is a qualitative descriptive field that takes
place in Raudhatul Athfal Muslimat NU 07 Sumber Bahagia
Kec. Seputih Besar Kab. Central Lampung. Data collection
methods through observation, interviews and documentation.
Data is analyzed qualitatively using data reduction, data display
and Conclusion Drawing. And for validity tests using source
trianggulation and trianggulation techniques.
The results showed that in the application of the project method
to develop children's cognitive, knowing geometry has
improved according to indicators, namely solving problems,
working together, learning experiences, and logical thinking.
With these four indicators, students' knowledge of geometry,
distinguishing sizes, sorting from small to large, and children
can equate geometric shapes with other objects continues to
increase. Of the 26 students, there are 4 whose cognitive
development has not developed optimally in recognizing
geometric shapes, because they have outstanding intelligence in
the musical field. But in addition to these four children, the
child's cognitive ability has developed optimally because the
teacher has guided the child according to the level of the child's
own ability.
